Huge Winners CNC System (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. has chosen Ocean Optics miniature fibre optic spectrometers to use in its LED (light emitting diode) sorting systems. Ocean Optics Asia, based in Shanghai, worked together with the Chinese company to develop a workable solution to improve the reliability of its LED sorting system.
"It is very satisfying for us to be able to solve a customer’s problem," commented Ocean Optics' Director of Asian Operations, Dr Ling Sun. "Our spectrophotometers are very reliable, even for the most demanding applications such as LED sorting and quality control at LED assembly companies."
LEDs can be used in a wide range of applications, including LED screens, LCD backlights, LED lighting and decorative lamps. However, because of the manufacturing process, each LED is unique and has slightly different electronic and optical features. This requires all LEDs to be tested and sorted according to these unique features. LED sorting machines do just this, and in these machines LED colour measurement is critical to the machines' reliability and the quality of its results.
Ocean Optics' products used in LED sorting systems include the USB4000 miniature fibre optic spectrometer. Ocean Optics replaced its USB2000 fibre optic spectrometer with the USB4000 in June 2005 and the new model is now very successful, due to its superior quality and performance.
